About John Davis
John Davis, MD, obtained his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1982 and received his medical education at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, affiliated with Wake Forest University, from which he graduated in 1986. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1990.
After completing residency training, Dr. Davis moved to Germany and served in the United States Army for four years. During his first year overseas, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia and served with distinction in Operation Desert Storm. After serving in the military, Dr. Davis returned to the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville and was a faculty member there for nearly 25 years, eventually rising to the rank of professor. While in Gainesville, Dr. Davis held various leadership positions including director of the Division of Gynecology between 1995 and 2016, residency program director between 2013 and 2018, and associate chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2016 to 2018. In January of 2019, Dr. Davis was named chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, a position he holds currently.
Dr. Davis is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and is a longstanding member of the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics. He is an active member of Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology and serves on the Board of the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He has lectured nationally and published on topics including abnormal uterine bleeding, urinary incontinence, ectopic pregnancy, contraception, management of abnormal Pap smears, prevention of venous thromboembolic complications of gynecologic surgery, and management of operative injuries of the ureter. He has examined for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2013. Dr. Davis has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” annually since 2001 and was named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2018. Between October 2011 and September 2018, he travelled to Fond des Blancs, Haiti, on six occasions to provide gynecologic surgical services to the underserved women of Haiti.
Dr. Davis has maintained a longstanding commitment to medical education. As a resident, he was named the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Outstanding Resident Teacher of the year each of his four years of training. He has received the University of Florida College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher Award on numerous occasions and in 2000 received the University of Florida College of Medicine Hippocratic Award, an award presented annually by each graduating class to the faculty member who represents the ideal role model and embodies professionalism, humanism, and teaching prowess. Dr. Davis was selected for membership in the University of Florida College of Medicine Society of Teaching Scholars in 2002.
