CC Meeting Minutes February 14, 2023

Dr. Harrell called the meeting to order at 7:31 a.m. 

  1. A motion was made to approve the consent agenda, seconded, and approved.

    1. Personal finance as a physician – elective proposal

An elective for 4th year students to educate the students on managing personal finances after they become doctors.

  1. Internship 101 revised objectives

Proposed six new learning objectives to better align with other course level objectives. Also discussed a name change for this course – Transition to Residency.

  1. Clinical Performance Evaluation of Students

Clerkship Directors recommendations to Curriculum Committee:

  • Recommend all clerkships assess all six competencies
  • Require behaviorally based descriptive anchors on clinical evaluation forms that are linked to 3,5,7,9 ratings (CDs asked Drs. Harrell, Nall, and Huynh to draft descriptive anchors that they could individualize to their clerkship)
  • Clearly identify a rating of 5 is minimal level of competence and descriptors align with those of a below average (C/C+) student

 A motion was made to approve the above, seconded and approved.

 

  1. Proposal to sunset the Career Track EM Clerkship – Dr. Meredith Thompson

Proposal to sunset the career track option and have the career track students interested in emergency medicine take the required clerkship. The career track is the Emergency Medicine Clerkship with just some extra requirements and responsibility. Students would still be able to rotate at Jax and Gainesville.

 A motion was made to approve the proposal updates, seconded and approved.

 

  1. Clerkship and Course Directors Retreat follow up

Provided updates from the recent Clerkship and Course Directors’ Retreat.

 

  1. CPESA Report

Presented a review of the 4th year Clerkships:  Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Neurology.

 

  1. Curriculum Renewal process update

Curriculum Committee Retreat is scheduled for April 11, 2023 from 8am – 2pm. Task forces being formed – Assessment, Growth Mindset, Continuity (between student and faculty and student and patients).

 

  1. Good News –

Dr. Chris Robinson will be taking over Neurology Clerkship. Moving Neurology back to 3rd year but not for another year. Will be searching for a Neuroscience Course Director as well as an ICM 1A&B Course Director. Will be finalizing selection of Medical Director for ALAC.

  • Kristin Telford (MS2) – presented a paper at the American Journal of Law and Medicine.
  • 2023 Gators Got Talent: A Black & White Affair
  • Student Run Health Fairs – Sixty patients served on 01.28.2023; two more health fairs this semester
  • 2023 Early Matches – Military, Urology (3 out of 3 matched), Ophthalmology (4 out of 4 matched)
  • Submissions all accepted
  • Rachel Ahn, PhD – hired to assist Dr. Huynh (part-time for now)
  • Medical Education Week information – Speakers: Dr. Sherilyn Smith, Dr. Victoria Sweet and Drs. Nall and Lynch.
