CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING
April 12, 2022
7:30 to 9:00 a.m. via Zoom

Dr. Fantone called the meeting to order at 7:33 a.m. 

  1. A motion was made to approve the Consent Agenda, seconded, and approved.
  2. Proposals 
  1. Urology MS4 SubI

Fourth year medical students would be invited to participate in a 4-week Urology SubI rotation. Ideal for students considering a career in urological surgery.

The committee approved this SubI as long as they link clerkship objectives with the institutional learning outcomes for the curriculum and the grading be satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

  1. Advanced Clinical Practice Selective

Confusion as to meaning of document. After lengthy discussion, it was agreed and voted by committee to table this until the next meeting.

  1. Transfusion Services Elective

The goal of this two- or four-week elective for 4th year students through the Transfusion Services will provide the students with practical knowledge of laboratory methods, clinical applications and therapeutic options as they relate to blood banking needs.

The committee approved this elective as long as they link clerkship objectives with the institutional learning outcomes for the curriculum.

  1. Pediatric Genetics 4th year Elective

Students will attend assigned genetics clinics, participate in in-patient consultations and attend genetics teaching conferences.

The committee approved this elective as long as they link clerkship objectives with the institutional learning outcomes for the curriculum.

Motion to approve these updates/additions.

A motion was made to approve the changes, seconded and approved.

  1. Policies
  1. Policies regarding student health, immunizations, insurance, and bloodborne pathogens

Update Policy to Include – Use of Illegal substances is prohibited. Positive drug screens for substances for which the student does not have a prescription will be considered in violation of this policy. Use of substances including recreational or medical marijuana on personal time may lead to positive urine drug screen and possible subsequent disciplinary actions which may include but are not limited to more random drug screening, placement on leave of absence, referral to Physician Resource Network, suspension, probation or dismissal.

  1. 2022-2023 Health Agreement

Update policy to include – #3 “and understand that a positive screen may lead to further evaluation. Please read the Substance Use Policy.”

Motion to approve these updates/additions.

  1. Proposed Revisions to Clinical Skills Requirements – Dr. Ashleigh Wright

Dr. Wright presented the proposed revisions to Clinical Skills list which was previously approved 3.1.22. The list is attached to these minutes.

Remote motion to approve these updates/additions.

A motion was made via email on 4.25.222 to approve the changes, seconded and approved.

 

  1. CPESA Report – Dr. Phuong Huynh
  1. Step 1 performance

Dr. Huynh presented updates of the Step 1 outcome for the past 5 years which showed an increase in the passing rate even above the national rates. The mean scores also improving and above national. In content area of Step 1 we have scored above the national average.

  1. CBSE Performance

CBSE Outcome for the Class of 2024, Dr. Huynh presented the comparison of past three years.

  1. Phase 1 Performance

Dr. Huynh presented the Phase 1 Fall 2021 Data Analysis on Exams and Courses. A comparison of the results between the last three year’s classes.

 

  1. LCME Updates –Dr. Joseph Fantone

Dr. Fantone encourage everyone if they are contacted by Dr. Novak and Kathy Green related to LCME to try to respond as quickly as possible because they are beginning to write the self-study to try to complete the DCI. Soon after they will need to start all over again with the new data for the new fiscal year.
