CC Meeting Minutes 11.9.21

CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING

November 9, 2021 

7:30 to 9:00 a.m., in-person and via Zoom

Dr. Harrell called the meeting to order at 7:36 a.m.

  1. A motion was made to approve the Consent Agenda, seconded, and approved.

  2. Medical Student Research Travel Support Policy 

Minor update to the travel support policy was to align the policy with the actual practice that has been happening. Students to provide additional information when submitting request for funding.

Motion to approve this policy.

A motion was made to approve the changes, seconded and approved.

  1. Subi Task Force Report

Since we didn’t have any formal guidance of what UF thought constituted a SubI so the task force was asked for guidance so as a committee could decide what it means to be a SubI. Dr. Giordano presented the findings from the task force.

Motion to approve the amended requirements, adding an 8 – the SubI will take place on an in-patient service. And under #1 that must be in-patient.

A motion was made to approve the changes, seconded and approved.

 

  1. External Assessments of Student Achievements

Dr. Harrell presented USMLE Step 1 Class of 2021 as well as AAMC Resident Readiness survey.  Data was based on Class of 2020 because they had completed their internship. Data shows that almost all the students exceeded or met expectations. Students are doing great on STEPS and are well prepared.

 

  1. LCME Updates – Dr. Fantone

Moving forward with the LCME process. Lead people are beginning to meet with their work groups to begin to review what is in the data collection instrument. Moving more into a phase of reviewing analysis of the data and identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement.

 

  1. Student Updates – Jeff Della Cruz (’24); Olivier Barolette (’25)

Re: LCME – Jeff Della Cruz updated that his class (’24) have formed a full student committee for planning the survey questions and also created a sub committee within the community of each of the four years to try to tackle different aspects of the questions.

Olivier Barolette commented about only have 3 weeks left of the semester and how Dr. Howell prepared the class for Preceptorships.

Student Affairs did a wonderful job on the Second Year Medical Student reception.

 

  1. Student Affairs Update – Dr. Collins

Senior Students are in the middle of interview season. Volumes have been high in terms of applications across specialties. Which means a majority of students have an extraordinary number of interviews while a few do not (around only 5). A bit stressful right now for the senior students. Performing well on the interviews.

  1. Good News

Invited two candidates to interview for the Director of Student Assessment position.
