Clerkship Descriptions for 3rd Year

MDC 7200 Medicine Clerkship (8 Credits)

Students actively participate in the inpatient medical management of adult patients. Teaching occurs at the bedside, in didactic sessions, and through simulation.

MDC 7180 Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship (6 Credits)

Students actively participate in the outpatient and inpatient care of women. The curriculum includes preventive medicine, primary care, and intensive care.

MDC 7400 Pediatrics Clerkship (8 Credits)

Students actively participate in inpatient and outpatient medical management of infants and children. Teaching occurs on the wards, in the pediatric clinics, in the emergency department, and newborn nursery.

MDC 7830 Psychiatric Clerkship (6 Credits)

Students actively participate in the treatment of psychiatric patients in inpatient, outpatient, and addiction medicine services.

MDC 7600 Surgery Clerkship (8 Credits)

Students actively participate in the care of surgical patients on the wards and in the operating room. Students spend time on general surgery, trauma, and subspecialty services.

MDC 7124 Family Medicine and Geriatrics Clerkship (8 Credits)

Students actively participate in the ambulatory diagnosis and management of common acute and chronic medical problems in a primary care setting. Continuity of preceptor and patient population are a feature of the half day per week continuity clinic experience, which is 12 weeks as the clerkship is linked to the four week geriatrics clerkship.

MDC 7140 Geriatrics Clerkship (4 credits)
The clerkship provides students with clinical experiences in the inpatient, outpatient, consultative services, and palliative and hospice care settings to help maintain or improve the function of patients and manage acute and chronic medical problems.
